Board Message – Quarter 1, 2019

By Laura Schick, CVSHRM President

As a local HR professional in the Chippewa Valley, we recognize that you are likely facing several challenges as you near the end of the 1st quarter of 2019. It could be the ongoing search for quality candidates, managing employee benefits and compensation, building and maintaining a diverse workforce, juggling changes in legislation and laws, understanding workforce planning, or practicing effective time management.  Possibly you are finding yourself tasked with a new project or initiative or are in the midst of fielding a difficult work-related issue – all of which could benefit from peer guidance and industry-specific resources. As a part of your annual membership, Chippewa Valley SHRM encourages you to explore the variety of platforms available to assist!

PARTNERSHIPS: Chippewa Valley SHRM serves as a connection to our local business community by partnering on comprehensive programming and initiatives.  If you have not already done so, please consider attending two upcoming all day conferences.  The HR Conference on April 3 is a partnership with the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce offering multiple sessions focusing on issues facing today’s HR professional. On May 10, join us for Leadercast Live: Leading Healthy Teams. This is a worldwide broadcasted event featuring high-level presentations for business professionals.  In addition, we will be notifying members on details for the Annual Western & Central Wisconsin Wage Survey.  The wage survey is set to launch yet this month with completed information due at the end of May and results ready to distribute in July.

MEMBER PROGRAMS:New in 2019, members can now view the dates and topics for the entire 12-month programming calendar.  These educational offerings are a direct result of member feedback, offering support and growth opportunities specific to our local chapter.  Many members are aware of the quality programming available; however, did you know that there are also opportunities before and after each member event to network with other members? This is invaluable time to share stories of struggles and successes.  New to the area or a first-time attendee? Contact us prior to the event to be paired with a meeting mentor to join you and introduce you to other members.

PEER NETWORKING: Chippewa Valley SHRM has created networking groups on various HR functional areas to generate new ideas and tap the knowledge of others by engaging in confidential dialogue and exchanges with colleagues. Our networking group areas consist of: Compensation Administration, Employee Benefits, Manufacturing, Recruitment and Selection, and a Sole Practitioner Group. Visit the Members Only tab on our website to learn more.

WEBSITE: Chippewa Valley SHRM’s website provides resources at the local, state, and national level.  There are several tabs and links available including information on member events, SHRM certification, job postings, blogs, and more.  There is a mobile application feature now available for members to download.  We are in the process of assembling a website committee to continue building and enhancing our site.  Bookmark the site and watch for progress updates throughout 2019.  Interested in offering assistance with the committee?  Please email us today!

SOCIAL MEDIA: Chippewa Valley SHRM has an actively engaged social media presence on Facebook. Like the page to learn about upcoming events, member accomplishments, happenings in the HR community, the latest from SHRM, opportunities to participate in polls, fun pictures and posts from our member events, and so much more!
