February Legal Update with Jerilyn Jacobs

of Weld Riley, S.C.

This semi-annual presentation will cover the major highlights of 2019, with an emphasis on the most recent court decisions, regulations, and administrative actions. The National Labor Relations Board has been busy in the recent months, and we will cover their recent activity. The U.S. Supreme Court is also poised to issue a major decision regarding federal protections for sexual orientation and transgender employees, and we will provide you with the latest. As always, we will talk about the trends both local and nationwide and have a little fun to help keep you one step ahead “in the game” of human resources.

About Jerilyn:

Jerilyn Jacobs is a shareholder with Weld Riley, S.C. and a senior member of the labor & employment section. She counsels private and public sector employers on employment and labor-related matters, including issues involving employee conduct; complaints of discrimination and harassment; wage and hour concerns; compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws; and practical business concerns.

A large portion of her practice is dedicated to litigating on behalf employers in federal and state court, and she has received favorable decisions before the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin; the Wisconsin Court of Appeals; and the Seventh Circuit Federal Court of Appeals. Jerilyn has represented a wide range of employers, from small family-owned businesses to Fortune 500 companies, in federal districts and states around the country, including in California, Illinois, Texas, and Wisconsin.  She also appears before administrative agencies, including Equal Employment Opportunity Commission; the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development; the Illinois Department of Human Rights; and the Madison Equal Opportunities Division.

Jerilyn also creates and presents employee training programs for human resources and general staff. She assists employers with reviewing and revising employee handbooks and in evaluating business needs for particular policies. Jerilyn graduated from the University of Southern California with degrees in journalism, English, and political science.  She graduated from Cornell Law School in 1998.
